Wild Calls: A Composer Transcribes Bird Songs

When the pandemic hit, composer Alexander Liebermann, in lockdown in Berlin, turned to nature and listened to recordings of birdsong. He inspired him to transcribe their complicated calls and translate them onto musical instruments, creating songs that are just as unpredictable and hauntingly beautiful as the originals. Correspondent Faith Salie talks to Liebermann about how his own songwriting has taken off.
