Whitney Peak paid tribute to Karl Lagerfeld on the 2023 Met Gala red carpet

This year’s Met Gala theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” transformed the red carpet into a tribute to honor the life and legacy of the late designer. Some have taken the literal route, from cosplaying Jessica Chastain’s Karl to Jared Leto in a cat costume as Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, Choupette. Others opted for something more subtle, wearing looks from Chanel’s latest collections or archive pieces from Lagerfeld’s tenure as creative director.

Chanel ambassador and Gossip Girl Actress Whitney Peak accompanied the latter, wearing a white organza Chanel couture dress from the fall 2021 haute couture collection and a Chanel beauty look to reflect key pillars of Lagerfeld’s designs. For Peak Makeup, Celebrity Makeup Artist Tyron Machhausen paid homage to Lagerfeld by taking inspiration from her intricate dress.

“When I saw a picture of Whitney in that jaw-dropping couture dress,” Machhausen says Charm, “it was very old Hollywood, but the beautiful beadwork and detailing reminded me of a delicate sea anemone, a beautiful sea flower. I wanted the makeup to reflect that: glowing skin lit from within with strong sculpted features and small soft elements reflecting the pearly, dreamy, underwater quality of the dress. An effortless yet strong and modern look. Qualities that I have always admired in Karl Lagerfeld.

To prepare the skin, Machhausen used the N°1 de Chanel Revitalizing Serum And Revitalizing Rich Cream and the Hydra Beauty Essence Mistbefore creating a luminous base with Chanel Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Highlighting Fluid in Sunkissed And Les Beiges Healthy Glow Moisture and Longwear Foundation. “I love mixing in a few drops of the foundation for an incredible lit-from-within glow,” he says.

Machhausen used the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream in Soleil Tan Deep Bronze to add definition and color, then top it all off with the Poudre Lumière Highlighting Powder in White Opal to reflect the pearly, dreamy look of Peak’s dress.
