Those of us with blush-prone skin or perhaps permanently blotchy red cheeks (me) know this presents a particularly annoying situation to cover up, especially if you’re not a fan of heavier makeup. and full coverage.
Of course, I want “natural” makeup. In fact, I would love nothing more than to have glowing, even skin without any makeup. But my cheeks were cursed with a hint of the same keratosis pilaris I have on my arms. Also, my whole face usually likes to blush at the slightest hint of cold or dry air, anxiety, embarrassment, or stress. I also regularly do breakouts, and acne may also cause skin redness.
That’s a lot of redness to hide, and I’ve learned that even the most popular tinted moisturizers or “lightweight” foundations and concealers alone can’t control it. So my interest was piqued when I first heard about literal green-colored makeup products designed to specifically cover red skin.
These can be particularly helpful for people with rosacea, a common skin condition in which blood vessels become dilated and can cause symptoms such as facial flushing, flushing and general flushing.
How does green makeup work to cover redness?
“The best way to conceal redness is to use some sort of color correction, and it goes back to color theory,” says celebrity makeup artist and beauty expert Nydia Figueroa. “Red and green are opposite in the color wheel, so it makes sense that green neutralizes redness on the skin.”
While people may think it’s easier to use a lot of one product to cover up discoloration, she said it’s actually the more difficult route. Using a green cream or makeup product before applying another type of coverage or foundation will give you a better result when it comes to redness coverage.
