Reds promote top prospect Ellie Delacruz to make MLB debut against Dodgers

The Cincinnati Reds are promoting 6-foot-5 shortstop Ellie Delacruz to make her major league debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Reds announced Tuesday that they will be calling up the 21-year-old from Triple-A to give one of the minor league’s most attractive talents his first major league test.

Delacruz will take over the roster spot of infielder/outfielder Nick Senzel. Senzel was placed on the 10-day injured list with an injury to his right knee. Senzel suffered a late scratch on Monday.

Baseball America ranks Dela Cruz as the third most promising player in the sport, citing a compelling combination of power and speed. 298 with 12 home runs, 11 stolen bases and a 1.031 OPS in Triple-A Louisville this season.

The Reds have surprisingly stayed on the fringes of the National League wild card race this season, thanks to the tremendous contributions of their young players. 329 batting average while playing shortstop, 23-year-old Hunter Greene dominated at times, and Andrew Abbott threw a six-inning clean sheet in his major league debut Monday against Milwaukee.
