Melissa McCarthy Tops People Magazine’s ‘Beautiful Issue’


Melissa McCarthy is at the helm this year People Magazine “Beautiful Edition.”

The “Bridesmaids” star says being on the cover “felt like I was saying something really lovely to my younger self, my 20-year-old self. Maybe other people, too.”

People revealed McCarthy’s pick on Tuesday and the cover of the issue that will hit magazine shelves on Friday.

McCarthy, 52, told the magazine of her upbringing on a farm in rural Illinois and how she went through a punk phase, complete with a mohawk and blue hair, when she was in high school.

“I was fascinated because when I would walk down the street and see myself like this, it was the first time people made fun of me or said really mean things to me, even adults,” she said. magazine. “I kept thinking, you don’t know me, I didn’t do anything to you. It was a huge revelation that people are just judging left and right.”

McCarthy says it wasn’t until she was in her 30s, when she met her husband and producing partner Ben Falcone, that she began to feel comfortable in herself. The couple, who have two teenage daughters together, have been married since 2005.

The actress said she wants others to find a similar peace of mind.

“When someone is being authentic and not hurting anyone else in the world… The simplest rule is to be nice,” she says.

McCarthy stars as the sea witch Ursula in Disney’s upcoming live-action film, “The Little Mermaid,” set for release in May.
